The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
